Library Functions:

First: Functions related to the collection of intellectual and national production:

1) Working as the central body in collecting intellectual production and cultural heritage in all its forms.

2) Collecting, preserving and organizing manuscripts and national documents.

3) Collecting foreign intellectual productions related to Palestine

4) Collecting the foreign production of Palestinians living abroad.

5) Collecting foreign productions on a specific topic.

 

Second: Functions related to exact bibliography of intellectual and national production

1) playing the role of the National Bibliographic Center.

2) Publication of the National Bibliographic.

3) Develop and maintain a national bibliographic database.

4) Issuing a unified national index.

5) Cataloging national periodicals and newspapers.

6) Supervising a special program for preparing bibliographic data as part of the printed book.

7) Preparing an official list of the names of the country's authors.

8) Playing the role of the serials registration center as a contributing member to the international series data system.

9) Allowing other libraries and information-providing agencies to benefit from the national library index.

 

Third: the special functions of legal deposit

1) To be the legal deposit library.

2) Working as the National Agency for ISBN and the National Center for ISBN.

3) Overseeing the explanation and application of copyright laws, author's rights, reproduction rights, the deposit law for works, and the censorship of publications.

4) Formulate national standards for the system of circulation of information and documents,

5) Working as a central point of contact and exchange of information with Arab and foreign data banks.

 

Fourth: Special Functions for office services, provision of information and pioneer services

1) Allowing libraries and information-providing agencies to benefit from the catalog of the National Library.

2) Planning and coordinating loan operations between national libraries.

3) Providing services and supervising the work of public libraries in the country.

4) Setting special standards for working in libraries in the country.

5) Participation in planning office services in Palestine

6) Assuming a pioneering role for libraries in the country.

7) Providing special books for the blind.

8) Providing mobile library services.

9) Working as the center for the exchange of works published inside and outside the country.

10) Developing the habit of reading in the library halls.

11) Providing office services to government agencies and supplying all government departments with books and periodicals.

 

Fifth: Functions related to supply.

1) Receiving materials supplied to the library through purchase, gift or exchange, classifying them, registering them, indexing them and taking the measures necessary for them.

2) Setting a special policy for purchases and orders for books and office materials.

3) Select books and various library sources.

4) Provide the necessary information related to publishers, book stores, prices and distribution.

5) Coordination between sources of supply and possession.

 

Sixth: Functions related to research, exhibitions, activities, studies and training.

1) Provide areas for training and specialization.

2) Carrying out the required research and studies in the field of documenting the Palestinian written and oral narrative.

3) Organizing activities and events related to the Palestinian book and novel.

4) Carrying out studies on office technical methods.

5) Supervising the preparation of a curriculum in universities on the national library, its role and importance.

 

Seventh: Functions related to legal services.

1) Supervising the preparation of laws, projects, rules and regulations related to the work of the National Library

2) Work to restore the Palestinian cultural and intellectual property that was looted and stolen by the Israeli occupation.

3) Providing legal advice for all areas of the library's work.

4) Supervising the recovery of cultural property located in countries outside Palestine.

5) Supervising the legal study of all agreements concluded in the field of library work.

6) Representing the National Library in various judicial and human rights forums.

 

Eighth: Functions related to international relations and information exchange

1) Acting as a central point of contact and exchange of information with Arab and foreign banks.

2) Representing the country in international conferences, cooperative programs and in general associations of national libraries.

3) Representing the country in coordinating relations with relevant local, regional and international institutions.

4) Playing a leading role in the process of sharing information sources at the local and international levels.

 

Ninth: Functions related to artistic performance:

  It is the department responsible for processing and organizing films, sound recordings, musical compositions, traditional songs, photographs, audio documents, coins, medals, antiques and lithographs.
